Styling DIY Punk
Wow - I am so very out of practice when it comes to writing blog posts. I know recently I've shared a few wishlists and book reviews, but it's been a long while since I've just rambled on about life. All of that is about to change though, since I had my first photo shoot of 2021, with the lovely Kirsty who I have worked before in this blog post here. Working with Kirsty is an absolutely pleasure, I always feel so relaxed; which is exactly what I needed to get back into the swing of things. Whilst I'm still a little rusty when it comes to writing, I just wanted to share the photographs from the shoot, as well as a bit of a chat about life - and, of course, my outfit.
Once again, lockdown restrictions in the UK are coming to an end, which means that we can all see a little more of one another, and finally start living our lives again. At last, I have a chance to wear all of these clothes I've been purchasing over the last 12 months! I don't know about you, but buying new clothing has been my only real hobby in the past year. As difficult as lockdown has been for us all, I've definitely managed to find a few positives: spending all of my time delving into my wardrobe and discovering new ways to re-style my old favourites has made me fall in love with them all over again. I've been massively focusing on my Instagram feed, and the response has been amazing! As I'm writing this I'm so, so close to 3,500 followers, which means I'm well on my way to my goal to reach 4,000 by the end of the year.
Some of you man have noticed that although I ~swore~ I would never make more than one Instagram Reel, I've become slightly obsessed. I'm actually really enjoying creating styling Reels, and I'm always trying to think of new ways to be creative and make even more to share with you all. Being back at work full-time definitely makes it a bit more difficult to create content for Instagram, but most of my days off at the moment are dedicated to styling for photographs to share, and I'm having quite a lot of fun with it!
As much as I have been loving rediscovering my old favourites, I have also been treating myself to a few new pieces too - life is about balance, right? One of my most recent purchases is of course this skirt, by Hope's Heroines. If you caught my newest wishlist post, you will know that Hope's Heroines is a brand I'd had my eye on to try for a while now. Very shortly after posting that wishlist, I purchased one of Rhiannon's handpainted bags, so when this one-of-a-kind skirt was released not long after, it also had a place in my wardrobe. I love the DIY-punk vibe of the brand, and the fact the pieces are all unique which makes them feel super special to me.
Obviously, this new skirt will look amazing with so many items that I already own, but for my first wear I wanted to pair it with this vintage tartan blazer I bought on Depop last year. With the shoulder pads and the asymmetrical buttons, it really gave off a strong Vivienne Westwood vibe to me, but on a budget; especially along with my Westwood Alex belt too. Paired with bright red fishnet and my favourite Dr Martens boots, a bold look like this is when I feel the most confident. I even got heckled in the street, so surely that's how you know you look great?
May is a really exciting month for Go Ask Ellice, as it's the third year anniversary of being up and running. As always, I have a post planned to talk about the past year of my blog, sharing some of my favourite posts and shoots and having an in-depth chat about them. As well as that, hopefully I'll be able to bring you some more consistent posts again, now that photo shoots are OK to go ahead... So stay tuned, exciting things are coming!
I wanted to keep this post short but sweet, as I said I'm out of practice with writing, but I couldn't wait a second longer to share these new shot with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, keep your eyes on my Instagram and here on Go Ask Ellice for more posts coming soon.
